Calendar - invoke a reminder service ==================================== -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Edit keys for this help are: =next page, =quit, =help, =back page -------------------------------------------------------------------------- The BBS calendar service consults the file calendar in the user's current directory and mails the user lines that contain today's or tomorrow's date. Most reasonable month-day dates, such as Sep. 14, september 14, and 9/14, are recognized, but not 14 September, or 14/9. The date can be anywhere on the line, and multiple dates per line are supported, too. On weekends, ``tomorrow'' extends through Monday. Lines that contain the date of a Monday will be sent to the user on the previous Friday. This is not true for holidays. You can use this as a reminder service, or as a place to keep track of birthdays and other events that are meaningful to you. Since everyone has their own, personal calendar file, you can edit your file, inserting your own entries, and have them displayed along with the historical data. The format of the entry is: "monthdayentrydata". Here is an example for you: Jul 4 Happy Fourth of July to me! 12/26 Take presents back! (Make sure presents are bought by 12/20) */15 Payday!! On July 3rd AND July 4th you will see the first example. The second line will be displayed on December 19th, 20th, 25th, and 26th. The order of the entries is not important. An asterisk <*> in place of the month means "all months", so line 3 would be displayed on the 14th and 15th of each and every month. To see what happened on this day in history (and tomorrow, too), select number 1 - ``See what happened'' - from the menu. The line below this option explains the commands to use when viewing the events. To edit your personal calendar/reminder file, select number 2 - ``Edit your personal calendar'' - from the menu. For help on the calendar editor, use ^G from within the editor itself. You can add as many reminder lines as you want, but please do not remove the ``#include'' line , or the ``_DAT_'' line, as these provide access to the system-wide calendar file of historic events. The reminders/events you enter are combined with the historical database, and then the proper entries are selected to be displayed.
